This conference will be a common undertaking of the BUP secretariat, Collegium Europaeum Gnesnense, filial of Adam Mickiewicz University, in Gniezno, Poland, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, and University of Economics in Poznan.
All BUP teachers of the Peoples of the Baltic, Regional Development, or any other courses related to the topic are welcome to apply for participation. At the conference we will have the possibility to welcome 45 of teachers which means that every country in the network may send about 4 teachers.

The Stockholm Memorandum
Nobel Laureates hand over recommendations to UN High Level Panel on global sustainability.
The Stockholm Memorandum
concludes that the planet has entered a new geological age, the Anthropocene. It recommends a suite of urgent and far-reaching actions for decision makers and societies to become active stewards of the planet for future generations.
The verdict from the trial of humanity, which opened the 3rd Nobel Laureate Symposium, has been incorporated into the Stockholm Memorandum: Tipping the Scales towards Sustainability.
Climate Change Science and Modelling Biophysical Impacts
UNU-WIDER and AERC launch an online course on Climate Change
In April-May of this year, the AERC and UNU-WIDER offered an online course on climate change. The course—Climate Change Science and Modelling Biophysical Impacts—is a three-week online course covering the current science on climate change and its biophysical implications. It is designed for professionals in different disciplines who are confronting the issue of climate change in their work.
New BUP Director
Following a decision at the CSD Uppsala to reorganize the work at the BUP secretariat, Paula Lindroos has assumed the responsibility of the programme director of the BUP. On its meeting on May 6 the BUP board expressed its gratitude for the fine work Christine Jakobsson has done as programme director in serving the BUP, and welcomed Paula Lindroos as the new programme director. Christine has been director in-charge of the BUP since 2007 and will continue in her position as BUP vice director. Paula has worked with BUP in Finland from 1991 and she has also been BUP vice director 1999-2002.
BUP Research Seminar
HAW Hamburg is hosting in Hamburg the "BUP Research Seminar" on the 25th-26th May 2011. The aims of the Seminar are:
- to identify research areas where BUP Universities have strong expertise and are able to compete in attracting EU and international funding;
- to cluster the expertise in thematic areas, with a view to forming powerful and attractive Consortia to bid for project funding;
- to agree on a workplan with future calls for projects, where BUP universities can take part.
