SAIL 2011 Slide Shows

SAIL 2011 on board STS FRyderyk ChopinThere is a slide show with some photos from the 2011 SAIL course on board the sailing ship STS Fryderyk Chopin in Turku. The presence in Turku of STS Fryderyk Chopin and a large number of other tall ships was a part of the celebration of Turku as the European Capital of Culture 2011.

Another slide show at the BUP secretariat web site has also some photos from the cruise on the Baltic Sea.

Join a live webcast from the Nordic Climate Festival @Aalto opening seminar, Shortcuts to Sustainable Nordic Communities on Wednesday 31st August, 9-12AM Finnish time (GMT +3:00)!

Starting at 10.30AM we’ll invite 7 top figures on sustainability issues in Finland and Iceland to discuss ways of promoting sustainable Nordic innovations in the Nordic countries – tune in to hear how research, finance and private sector can help in finding shortcuts to sustainable Nordic communities!

Panelists include among others CEO Jaakko Särelä, ZenRobotics, Director Jukka Noponen, Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund, Energy Programme and General Manager Jón Björn Skúlason, Icelandic New Energy. The panel discussion is hosted by journalist Kari Rissa and Sustainability Coordinator Meri Löyttyniemi, Aalto University. The seminar is in English.

 

The SAIL 2011 Course Onboard STS Fryderyk Chopin

SAIL 2011Social, cultural, economical and environmental aspects of sustainability will be in focus on board the Polish sailing ship STS Fryderyk Chopin for 38 BUP students and teachers. The participants on the SAIL 2011 course comes from 12 countries in the BUP network representing a large number of different university faculties and disciplines.

The preliminary schedule for the SAIL 2011 voyage is: Halmstad, Sweden 11.8 – Rønne, Denmark 15-16.8 – Karlshamn, Sweden 17-18.8 – Tallinn, Estonia 22-23.8 – Turku, Finland 26-28.8.

In Turku the ship and its crew will participate in the celebrations of Turku as Cultural Capital of Europe for this year.
