A National Resource Centre for ESD in Higher Education, 2007-2009.

Åbo Akademi University (ÅA) has acted as the Finnish National BUP Centre ever since the BUP Network started in 1991. The main task is to support the Finnish universities participating in the BUP-network, to coordinate the BUP-courses nationally, to assist and co-operate with the secretariat in Uppsala in developing the Programme.

The Finnish National BUP-centre at ÅA coordinates the forum: ”National Resource Centre for ESD in Higher Education” through funding by the Finnish Ministry of Education (2007-2009):

  • supporting national and international strategies for the implementation of sustainability issues into all activities of institutions of higher education and interactions with the surrounding society by eg.:
  • arranging seminars, workshops and conferences on sustainability issues for teachers, researchers, educational planners and other stakeholders
  • initiating, supporting and participating in national and international networks on sustainability related issues
  • maintaining a national platform (www.bup.fi ) and an international ESD website (www.balticuniv.uu.se/esd/index.htm) providing links to events, networks, references (textbooks, publications, didactic methods, course descriptions and other tools) promoting education for sustainable development
  • The practical works is enhanced by an advisory board and a network of appointed contact persons from the Finnish universities and univerities of applies sciences
