BUP Student Conference on EMS
We would like to welcome BUP students with a direction of studies including EMS or an interest for EMS to a BUP Students' Conference on Environmental Management Systems that will take place in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on November 24–28, 2010.
For more information see Conference Poster and Conference Content and Documents (pdf-files).
The conference is arranged by the BUP secretariat at Uppsala University in cooperation with, and with substantial financial support from, VSB-Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Some general information about the content of the conference
The 2010 fall student conference of the Baltic University will focus on environmental management as a systematic approach to improved environmental performance. Environmental management systems, EMS, and related systems, for example for sustainability management, are becoming increasingly important in business, among authorities and in all work for sustainable development. The conference will include lectures, practical work, discussion groups, debates and excursions. It will touch on materials management, product eco-labelling, life cycle thinking, certification and EMS at companies, cities, universities and in your personal lives. Participants will be asked to prepare themselves by investigating the performance of universities where they study and the cities they come from.
We do hope that the topic and the programme will be of interest for many of our students. At the conference we will have places for 60 of students which means that every country can send 5 students. BUP students with a direction of studies including EMS or an interest for EMS are all welcome to apply. Our BUP Centres and the BUP contact persons at every university are kindly asked to spread this information to the university students. Please print the pdf file with a poster announcing the conference and put it up on billboards at your university.
The deadline for students applications, which should include a letter of motivation, is November 1st.
Cost of participation
The BUP, with support from the Technical University of Ostrava, will cover all costs on place for all students (food and accommodation included). Travel costs will be the responsibility of the participants and their universities. Centres and teachers are kindly asked to advice and help students to find financial support for their travel costs.
However there will be a possibility to apply for a travel grant from the Swedish Institute and have travel costs partially reimbursed at the conference. Those of students who are not able to find money for their travel at their home universities / faculties / students unions / parents / foundations / others, may apply for a travel scholarship at the BUP Coordination Secretariat – application form enclosed. As usual, budget travel is required. Please once writing to us inform to whom and when have you applied to find the money to cover your travel to the conference and let us know the reason for refusal – if possible please attached the copy of your application and the received answer. Note that only very few such scholarships will be granted.
Please observe that the proper travel application must be sent to the BUP secretariat / Maria Hejna for consideration no later then November 12. Please observe that students from Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus who need visas should send their applications (with all data needed) in proper time to get visas in time for conference. Please advice where to send the invitations.
